Celebrating past and
present accomplishments
T
he last 12 months have brought their fair share of challenges, but also plenty of opportunities. That’s
why I’m feeling genuinely optimistic heading into the second half of 2025. Interest rates are easing, and
I’m con昀椀dent in the huge pool of talented brokers working hard to support buyers. According to our
own research, advisers agree, with two-thirds saying human mortgage advice will become even more
valuable over the next 30 years.
It’s a particularly special year for us, as we’re celebrating the 30th anniversary of our Mortgage Club
business. This milestone re昀氀ects the dedication of our team and advisers we work with. It’s no small feat that
we’ve completed over £1trn in mortgages, and I want to say thank you to everyone who has supported us.
We’ve come a long way over the past 30 years, with plenty of positive change and innovation. 2024 was
another standout year for us. We achieved record lending, welcomed talented colleagues, and strengthened
relationships with lenders and brokers. We also launched our Referral Pro tool, helping advisers to meet diverse
client needs while staying true to Consumer Duty.
In a market increasingly shaped by complexity and change, the role of trusted, personalised guidance is
critical. The progress we’ve made, through innovation, collaboration, and doing the right thing has laid a strong
foundation. However, it’s clear that the future will demand new capabilities too. In our research, 41% of brokers
highlighted 昀氀uency in technology, especially AI, as essential to staying relevant. The most effective brokers will
be those who combine technology with human interaction.
There’s so much more to come this year. Watch this space for new features and bene昀椀ts, all designed to
deliver the best outcomes.
The market felt calmer compared to 2023, but it was still far from predictable. For some, it was their 昀椀rst
experience of a decreasing interest rate environment, bringing new learning curves and dynamics. Much of
our focus was on guiding a market still dependent on product transfers, which was resulting in lower fees
for advisers. We responded by forming an in昀氀uential leaders’ group, working closely with lenders to support
advisers.
Looking ahead, the adviser community will need clarity and unity in response to the FCA’s consultation
paper. This could present a big challenge and we all must help de昀椀ne and demonstrate the true value of advice,
not just to consumers, but to regulators too.
I’m proud that this year’s Mortgage Club Awards is one of the two standout events in our 30th anniversary
year. I’m also looking forward to our upcoming November event at Northumberland Avenue – a fantastic
opportunity to hear from leading voices in the industry as they re昀氀ect on three decades of change and share
their thoughts on where the market is heading next.
Thank you to everyone who attended this year’s ceremony. Your unwavering commitment, willingness to go
above and beyond, and expertise are inspirational and something to celebrate. I’m reminded once again of the
sheer scale of talent that L&G is fortunate enough to work with.
